Dragons drop 3rd straight
HARBORCREEK — After a six-game winning streak, Warren’s girls basketball team lost its third straight Region 6 contest, 49-44 on Thursday at Harbor Creek.
The Dragons and Huskies were tied 24-24 at halftime, and Warren led 36-32 after three quarters before a 17-8 Harbor Creek fourth quarter.
The Lady Dragons were forced to foul late, and the Huskies went 6-for-7 from the free throw line in the fourth.
“They got better from last time,” said Warren coach Lisa LaVan of the Huskies, who the Dragons defeated 62-35 on Jan. 24 in Warren.
Harbor Creek’s Brooke Przybylski was 4-for-4 at the line in the fourth and had 6 of her 11 points. Elise Benim had 5 of her 13 in the fourth.
A potential District 10 5A finals matchup, Warren and Harbor Creek (13-8) both finish 8-4 in the region.
The Dragons (16-6) will likely open the D10 playoffs on Saturday, Feb. 26.
“They are taking eight teams,” said LaVan. “I guess they plan to just seed outright, so not sure where we land. We will know Sunday.”
LaVan said they will use the time between now and the playoffs “to regroup.”
She added: “We are tired mentally and physically.”
Riley Childress led Warren with 14 points, including 12 in the first half. Sammie Ruhlman had 12 points for the game and Emma Ruhlman 9.
