Records fall as Dragons split with Titusville at Y

Warren’s girls team swam to a 91-88 win and the Dragon boys fell 85-82 in a super close meet Wednesday at the Warren YMCA.

Super also seems to describe Warren’s record-breaking swimmers; four more records fell on this night.

Senior Katie Beyer broke her own record — set last season — in winning the 100-meter backstroke in 1:06.02.

Beyer also broke a record and finished first in a 1-2-3 finish with Samantha Caudill and Summer Lucks in the 200 free (2:10.33).

Beyer also teamed with Caudill, Eliza Brook and Katie Krogler to win the 200 free relay, and with Lucks, Sophie Olson and Kirsten Johnson to win the 400 free relay.

Lucks also won the 100 butterfly, Johnson the 200 individual medley and Sara Sokolski the 100 breaststroke.

Izabelle Heacox and Alexia Bowers finished 1-2 in diving.

Despite a three-point team loss, two records fell in the boys’ meet Wednesday; sophomore Hugh Harrison was involved in both.

Harrison broke Andrew Beyer’s 2019 record in the 100 backstroke with a 1:00.61. Yes, that’s the same Beyer who is the brother of Katie Beyer and son of the head coach.

Harrison also teamed with his brother Max Harrison, Derek Hahn and Graham Carr to break the school’s 200 medley relay record in 1:58.12. Andrew Beyer also held that 2019 record with Stephen Ashbaugh, and the same Hahn and Max Harrison.

Hugh Harrison added a first-place finish in the 200 free, and teamed with Max Harrison, Hahn and Carr to win the 400 free relay.

Max Harrison added two individual victories in the 50 and 100 free, and Hahn won the 100 fly.

“That’s probably my the best meet I’ve seen since I’ve been head coach,” said Warren coach Russ Beyer. “I did think the result might have been the other way around with the boys winning a close one.”

Caudill added another district qualifier to Warren’s list in the girls’ 200 free.

Starting at $4.00/week.
