Warren has an extremely young wrestling team with just three seniors on the roster.
One of those seniors — Christian Papalia — gave the Dragons a rare highlight Wednesday night in a season-opening 57-12 Region 5 loss to Meadville at Warren Area High School.
Warren actually put points up the last two matches as Cameron Williams’ forfeit win ended the match at 120 pounds.
Papalia, at 113, received a blood timeout before taking down his opponent and earning a pin at 1:27 in the first round. It got the Dragons, in just their second year under head coach Ted Carrington, fired up in their home opener after losing their first 11 weights, including five pins.
Josh Letko also received blood time at 132 before a 10-9 decision loss in the closest match of the night.
