Sheffield’s Hulings named D9 North all-star

When you’re battling low numbers and COVID quarantines to boot in an 0-8 season under a new head coach, it makes for a season with a lot of question marks.
A definite answer to some of those questions for Sheffield High School football and coach Mike Barr was senior Aldon Hulings.
He was the only Wolverine named to the District 9 Small School All-Stars by a vote of D9 coaches.
Hulings, named all-star at defensive line/end, was also a 6-foot-4, 275-pound kick returner.
“Aldon is a fantastic young man, always willing to do whatever it took,” said Barr. “Throughout the year, he played 10 different positions, including kick returner. He just wanted to play football.”
Hulings was well aware this was a new beginning for Sheffield football, and was up to the task.
“Sheffield was a young team this year,” said Hulings. “The chemistry wasn’t as strong as most of the other teams we faced, due to not having the program last year, so certain positions I felt like I was able to step up and play, being one of the few seniors on the team.
“I’ve loved playing football my whole life,” he said, “so being an all-star is a really great experience and accomplishment. I definitely improved my game throughout this last season, thanks to the coaches and my teammates and, of course, all of the support from my friends and family.”
He’d play anywhere, and he did.
“I played defensive tackle, defensive end, some linebacker, offensive tackle, offensive guard, I was on kick return, and I was the punter,” said Hulings. “I enjoyed playing every position that the coaches put me at. I liked just being on the field and experiencing the game.”
D9 North champion Smethport had nine players voted to the all-stars, including the offensive and defensive MVPs.
