Warren battles Conneaut in five-set loss
LINESVILLE — Warren and Conneaut have played some doozies in recent years. Thursday went five excruciatingly stressful sets.
In fact, in Conneaut’s 3-2 win, the Eagles won by a combined seven points in their three set victories.
Warren fell, 23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 31-29, and 14-16.
“Another 5-setter,” said Warren coach Mike Dolan. “I gotta say this team is really competing hard. We keep saying every game is a battle this season with the schedule we have, but it was a tough one to lose tonight. We were very evenly-matched all night but to come back and gut out that win in game 4 and take us to the 5th showed how much these guys wanted it. It was just a matter of a few plays in the 5th that was the difference. Kylie Fehlman had a big game in the middle and Katie (Madigan) was fantastic making plays all over, getting kill after kill. Halee (Mineweaser) did a terrific job running the offense again. We know competing in these games will pay off in the long run and we’ll start converting them to W’s.”
Madigan finished with an eye-popping 30 kills, 27 digs and 3 aces; Mineweaser 37 assists and 7 kills; Fehlman 10 kills and 4 blocks from the middle; Ellee Irwin 8 kills and 3 aces; Carly Beers 6 kills and 9 digs; Alexia Bowers 6 kills and 3 blocks; Summer Lucks 19 digs, and; Lindsay Madigan 9 assists.
In Warren’s 19-25, 17-25 junior varsity loss, Gabby Pritzl had 3 kills and Alyssa Farr 2 assists and 3 digs.
