Kane edges Sheffield in five sets Tuesday
KANE — Sheffield lost to Kane 3-2 on Tuesday night, just a week after defeating the Wolves by the same score.
“Communication was troublesome again tonight,” said Sheffield head coach Melissa Lemay. “Kane is amazing at communicating with each other.”
Sheffield started out hot, going up 2-0 with sets of 25-22 and 25-13, before dropping three in a row of 12-25, 14-25 and 11-15.
Kadence Steffan piled up assists with 35 and added 22 digs. Kassidy Orinko had another strong performance with 19 kills, 18 digs, seven aces and six blocks. Lynzie Grubbs had three blocks and seven kills, and Emily Foster had eight kills and 18 digs.
“The individual talent on our team is something that I have never had in my coaching career,” said Lemay. “We have amazing athletes who can outperform anyone they’re put up against. Where we are struggling is finding a vocal leader in the court and that is hurting us. There is no one taking the reins and stepping into that role. I need that. We need that.”
Lemay continued to express that given the mental aspect of the game, that having someone who can calm the team down in times of chaos would be an incredible contribution to winning more matches.
