Former PGCBL players drafted

Just because affiliated baseball is no longer played in Jamestown, it doesn’t mean professional players of tomorrow can’t been seen at Diethrick Park.

In fact, 24 former Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League players were taken in this year’s Major League Baseball draft, which wrapped up Tuesday.

No PGCBL players were taken in Sunday’s first round, but 14 were taken in rounds 2-10 on Monday.

A pair of third-round selections kicked off the action. The Detroit Tigers took Alabama’s Dylan Smith with the 74th overall pick and two selections later the Baltimore Orioles took Kentucky’s John Rhodes.
