Warren routs East
Dragons snap slide, clinch the third 4A seed

Warren scored three in the first, four in the second and four in the fourth em route to a 12-2 win over visiting East, Tuesday at Legion Field.
With the win, the Dragons snapped a four-game losing streak and clinched the third 4A seed in Region 5 with the playoffs on the horizon. Warren is 10-7 overall and 7-6 in the region, behind first-place Harbor Creek (12-1) and second-place Prep (11-2). East is 1-12 in Region 5.
“For our five seniors, on senior day, they battled through COVID issues and restrictions all season and (Wednesday) will be our 18th game,” a reward in itself, said Warren coach Rick Eaton. “We clinched the third seed today with the win, and McDowell will be a good tuneup game for the playoffs.”
Trailing 1-0 against East, the Dragons scored three times in the bottom of the first on one hit, a walk, and two East errors.
Warren’s four-run second was highlighted by Micah Passmore’s two-run bomb to left-center field. Ben Berdine nearly went deep on the next pitch, taking Eli Nicolas to the center-field fence.
Berdine was doing enough on the mound, throwing a complete-game four-hitter. He struck out 10 in six innings, walking two, and did not give up an earned run.
Warren had just seven hits, but made the most of 10 East errors. Warren’s James Swanson was 2-for-3 with a triple, walk, three runs, and two RBI out of the leadoff spot.
Warren will host McDowell at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Legion Field.
