Warren returns with road victory

WATERFORD — In its first game since May 3 due to COVID protocols, Warren’s baseball team put up crooked numbers in three of seven innings for a 9-3 win Wednesday at Fort LeBoeuf.
Big brother and little brother, JT and Owen Blum had two-out RBI hits to get the Dragons going in the top of the first.
Ben Berdine went to work on the mound, striking out six over two scoreless innings. They weren’t of the three-up, three-down variety as LeBoeuf stranded the bases loaded in the first and runners on second and third in the second.
Berdine’s RBI single in the third upped Warren’s lead to 3-0 before he made way on the mound for Dylan Maeder.
Maeder scattered five hits over four innings and left with a big lead. That’s because the Dragons added four runs in the top of the sixth to lead 7-1. With two outs, Micah Passmore, Berdine, JT Blum and Owen Blum had hits in the frame.
JT Blum had his third hit of the game in a two-run Warren seventh. He was 3 for 5 with two runs. Passmore, Berdine, Owen Blum and Ethan Wilson had two hits each in a 14-hit attack.
“(Dylan) threw strikes just like we needed him to and we made some plays,” said Warren coach Rick Eaton. “We had some well-placed hits after we got our timing down.
“It was nice to get a win, which is our sixth region win,” Eaton added, “hopefully good enough to get us in the playoffs.”
But the Dragons have more work to do, he said.
Warren is 9-3 overall and 6-3 in Region 5. LeBoeuf is 1-11 in the region.
Warren hosts General McLane on Thursday. McLane is 4-8 in region. Both teams have won three straight.

UNEARNED RUNS HURT KNIGHTS
RUSSELL — A four-run fourth inning was Eisenhower’s downfall in a 5-3 Region 3 loss to Cochranton.
The Knights made it a 4-1 game in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Cardinals added a run in the top of the sixth.
Trailing by four entering its last at-bat, Eisenhower scored two runs, but left the bases loaded.
The Knights managed just seven hits with Teagan Gray’s double being the only one for extra bases.
Owen Trumbull, Gray and Zach Rohlin each drove in a run.
Trumbull took the loss after allowing four unearned runs in five innings of work while striking out three. Gray and Cole Chapman both worked in relief.
