Warren bows out of district doubles
Dragons lose to eventual champs
ERIE — Warren’s duo of Max Harrison and Ian Darling advanced to the semifinals before bowing out to the eventual champions at Wednesday’s District 10 2A Doubles Championships at Westwood Racquet Club.
Warren’s season-long top doubles team defeated Grove City No. 2 8-2; fourth-seeded Greenville No. 1 8-4; and Sharon No. 1 8-2 for the day.
Fairview’s Aidan Piazza and Grayson Millette — who lost in Monday’s 2A singles final — combined to form the top doubles seed Wednesday. After the duo eliminated Warren’s Harrison and Darling, the Tigers defeated Cathedral Prep’s Corbin Glance and John Kretzing 6-2, 7-5, to advance to the PIAA doubles championships.
Warren’s other doubles team of Wes Kiehl and Logan Fincher entered as the third seed, but a tough draw saw the newly formed team lose its opening match to Fairview No. 2 8-4.
“We are putting together positive, high-energy doubles,” said Warren coach Thomas Pellegrino. “This isn’t country-club tennis. This was a display of maximum intensity and skill that made us proud.”
On Friday, Warren will play Cathedral Prep in the semifinals of district team competition. The winner of that match plays the winner of Fairview vs. Greenville.
“Coach Pellegrino and I are extremely proud of our boys,” said Warren head coach Travis Myler. “All of their hard work came through today as they showcased their skills and earned the respect of their opponents.”
