Jackals sweep weekend road series
The Jamestown Jackals aren’t having any problems putting the ball in the hoop.
Their defense isn’t too shabby either.
Added together, they’ve been tough to beat.
The local team in The Basketball League swept its weekend road games, routing the South Shore (Massachusetts) Monarchs on Friday 146-102 at the Starland Sportsplex and then knocking off the Tri-State Admirals 138-115 on Sunday at the New York Military Academy.
The Jackals’ victories ran their winning streak to six and improved their record to 12-3.
They won’t lose many games if they continue to shoot like they did on Memorial Day weekend.
On Friday, the Jackals connected on 70 percent from the floor (55 of 78) and had seven players score in double figures. Leading the way with 24 points apiece were Jon Lee and Nobles Christian. Four Mcglynn had 21 points; Dane Miller, who also had seven rounds, seven assists and six steals, joined Glenroy Carr Jr. with 17 points; Freddie Mcswain Jr. added 16; and Eric Mack chipped in 10.
The game was relatively close at halftime — the Jackals led 68-56 — but they outscored the Monarchs 78-46 after the break to breeze to the win.
Christopher Miller led South Shore with 25 points, one of five Monarchs in double figures.
On Sunday, Lee poured in 30 points and Mcglynn added 26 as the Jackals knocked off the Admirals. Like Friday, the game was reasonably close at intermission, but the Jackals, who shot 50 percent from the floor (48 of 95), poured in 73 second-half points to leave no doubt about the outcome.
Joining Lee and Mcglynn in double figures were Christian with 19 points; Miller and Mcswain Jr. with 13 apiece; and Daniel Mulamba with 12. Miller also pulled down 14 rebounds, while Mulamba had 11.
Malik Thomas led six players in double figures with 24 points for Tri-State.
