Conneaut snaps Warren’s win streak
LINESVILLE — Conneaut avenged a loss a day earlier, beating Warren 1-0 on Thursday.
The Dragons won 3-2 on Wednesday, but couldn’t get the bats going against Kaley Cook. She held Warren hitless until two outs in the sixth when Halle Kuzminski singled.
Trailing 1-0, Rylie Yeager led off the seventh with a single, but she was left at second base to end the game. Cook retired the first 17 batters and struck out four without a walk.
Warren’s Kelsey Stuart was impressive as well, allowing four hits and just a second-inning RBI single by Emma Stevenson. A hit batter to lead off the inning scored on the two-out hit. Stuart struck out eight and walked two. She stranded five Conneaut runners in scoring position.
“Our luck ran out,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “We hit the ball better, but everything was right at them. It will definitely be nice to get back to practicing. Lexi Hoffman made some nice catches in right field.”
Warren finished the regular season at 14-3 and 11-3 in Region 5. Conneaut is 11-6 and 8-5.
The District 10 4A playoffs begin next week.
Kylie Fehlman was 3-for-3 and Yeager earned the pitching win in a 12-4 junior varsity victory.
