Stuart has 12 Ks; offense arrives late
ERIE — Warren took a while to warm up, but when the Dragons did, they blew out Erie 12-3 on Friday.
Tied 2-2 after five innings, Warren scored five runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in Region 5.
“It was slow going for the first five innings.,” said Warren coach Carissa Stuart. “We couldn’t string together anything. We were hitting it hard, but right at them. I knew we would have an inning eventually; just took a little bit longer than anticipated.”
Carly Beers followed a leadoff walk with a single and Halee Mineweaser, Kelsey Stuart and Alix Lytle added doubles in the sixth as Warren batted around. In the seventh, Lexi Hoffman hit her first-ever varsity home run and Stuart later added her second double in as many innings.
Stuart kept Erie at bay with 12 strikeouts without a walk. After the first two hitters got base hits and scored, Stuart allowed just three more hits.
Stuart had three hits, and Lytle and Mineweaser two apiece. Beers and Rylie Yeager reached three times apiece.
Yeager pitched the entire junior varsity game, a 24-7 win. Kylie Fehlman and Kate Madigan recorded the first home runs of their careers in the win.
