Eisenhower takes control late

UNION CITY — Jared Beers went 4 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs to lead Eisenhower past Union City 13-9 in Region 3 baseball Monday.
Tied 5-5 in the top of the sixth inning, the Knights scored six runs to take an 11-5 lead. They tacked on two more in the seventh before the Bears made it close with a four-run seventh inning of their own.
Zach Rohlin had two hits and two RBIs while Owen Trumbull (double) and Cam Jakubczak also had a pair of RBIs apiece for Eisenhower. Zane Alexander walked five times and scored four runs.
The Knights (5-3) scored two runs in the first inning and two more in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
The Bears scored the next three runs to pull within a run before Eisenhower’s run in the top of the fifth inning gave it a 5-3 lead.
Union City answered with a two-run bottom of the fifth inning to tie it before the Knights took over in the final two innings.
The teams combined for 11 errors.
Eisenhower’s Cole Chapman picked up a no-decision with five strikeouts while allowing three hits over 4.1 innings. Just one of the four runs he allowed was earned. Teagan Gray earned the win in relief, striking out five and allowing three hits and five runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings.
Five Union City pitchers combined for 10 walks.
