Record breakers: Ike 4×400 relay team of Talasky, McJunkin, Daugharthy, Nizzi sets school record

BOLIVAR, N.Y. With conditions less than ideal, Eisenhower’s 4×400 relay team took the track for the final event of the day, cold and wet from a long, rainy afternoon and evening at the Twin Tiers Invitational at Bolivar-Richburg.

All the team of TerryLee Talasky, Emily McJunkin, Kate Daugharthy and Delaney Nizzi did for a finish was set the school record with a time of 4:21.70, breaking the mark of last year’s team that featured three of the same runners. The only difference Friday was Nizzi in place of the graduated April Seamans.

“Our performances today considering the weather were amazing,” said Eisenhower coach Mike Logue. “It was pouring rain for the longest time and the temperature kept dropping and to set the school record in the last event is amazing.”

It was just one of many standout performances for the Lady Knights.

Talasky also took first in the 100 (12.93) and 200 (27.19), with her time in the 200 .7 seconds faster than second place finisher Gracie Hamilton of Northern Potter.

“There was no one around her in the 200,” Logue said.

Eisenhower finished third in the team scoring with 80 points. Coudersport was second with 90 and Letchworth won with 94.

Two events, however the 300 hurdles and high jump were not contested due to the poor conditions. Nizzi was the top seed in the 300 hurdles and McJunkin was seeded second in the high jump, so taking first place as a team would have been well within Ike’s reach.

“It’s a little bit a case of could of, would of, should of but we had a great day,” Logue said.

The 4×800 relay team of Daugharthy, Alecia Straight, Sandra Richards and Tess Morningstar placed fourth (11:29.98), while the 4×100 team (Talasky, Cameran Edwards, Nizzi and Tiffany Work) took second in 54.27.

Work was second in the 100 hurdles (17.34) and Nizzi fifth (17.9), while McJunkin took sixth in the 200 (29.22).

Logue also noted that Straight took almost 20 seconds off her time in the 3200, finishing fifth in 13:38.

In the field, Straight took third in the discus (88-1), with Kirsten Baran fifth (85-7).

Baran also picked up a third place finish in the shot put (29-7), while Daugharthy was third in the triple jump (31-0).

The Lady Knights return to action Tuesday at Seneca.

“That’s a big meet for us,” Logue added.

Starting at $4.00/week.
