BOYS HOOPS: Packed House: Eagles leave standing-room Tidioute Charter with second win

Tidioute fans packed the gymnasium Wednesday night at Tidioute Community Charter School, but it was all Youngsville from the opening whistle.

The Eagles scored the first 17 points of the game before a Ben Kightlinger 3-pointer ended the run and got Tidioute on the board.

“We have a tremendous amount of respect for (Tidioute), both the kids and the coaches,” said Youngsville coach Keith Martin. “Their defense broke down a little and we were able to take advantage. We still need to be more disciplined running through our plays.”

The Eagles were led by a pair of strong inside performances from seniors Broc Horn and Coll Dininny, who scored 20 and 18 points, respectively. Many of those points came in the first half, as the bench saw a majority of the minutes late in the game.

Kightlinger put together a solid game for the Bulldogs, finishing with 17 points, including all eight of the team’s first quarter output.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 2-6 overall, while Tidioute (0-7) continues to look for its first win. Youngsville will look to stay in the win column next Wednesday when the Eagles host Conneaut in a Region 3 game at Youngsville High School. The Bulldogs welcome Warren County Christian School on Monday.

Youngsville topped Tidioute in the junior varsity game, 52-30. Jacob Linkerhof paced the Eagles with 15 points, while Trevor Flinn followed with 12 and Joey Chuzie added 10. Tidioute’s Brian Bonner scored a game-high 17 points in defeat.
