Our opinion: Taking a swing for new complex

It can’t hurt to use some county money to create a site plan for a new county-owned complex at the Farm Colony property.

The current facility on Route 62 has several issues, including flooding that makes the current fields difficult to use at times. In addition to making baseball season more fun for Little Leaguers, the site plan could include a new playground at the complex, a walking path and other facilities.

The planning would not require any additional county dollars. Once a plan is created and agreed upon, then a final price tag can be attached to the project and fundraising can begin.

Warren County families with children who play baseball would certainly appreciate a new facility. County Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said he would like to see a site plan finished this year, “next year grant-raising and fund-raising, with the idea that we would break ground in 2024.”

That’s an aggressive timeline, but one that could make 2025 one for the ages for Warren County’s boys of summer.

Starting at $3.50/week.
