Dorothy Walton

Dorothy Ruth Walton, 88, formerly of Russell, PA, passed away on February 1, 2018, at the Rouse Warren County Home. Dorothy was born February 4, 1929, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of the late William J. and Eunice Rhodes Young.

Dorothy graduated from Brush High school in Lyndhurst, OH in 1946. She attended Eastern Nazarene College in Wollaston, MA. graduating with a B.S. Degree in Elementary Education in 1950.She also took graduate hours from Wayne State University, Michigan University and Western Michigan University.

On June 24, 1950 she was married to Clifford L. Walton, it was a double wedding ceremony along with her twin sister who married William Varian.

She shared her husband’s ministry of over 42 years in The Church of the Nazarene in Ohio, Michigan and Massachusetts. While serving as a pastor’s wife she also taught Kindergarten or First Grade in Stow, Ohio ; Champion, Ohio, Warren, Michigan, and Massachusetts. She founded the Nazarene Wee Care Center in Portage, MI., and also taught at the Congregational Church Nursery School in Owosso, MI.

After retirement she and her husband moved to Florida for nine years moving to Russell, Pa. for health reasons in 2001, residing with her daughter and soninlaw; Joanne and Daniel Sorensen. She was a member of the Warren First Church of the Nazarene. She also served as a Volunteer at Warren General Hospital.

Dorothy is survived by two children; Glenn L. Walton, his wife Dianne, of Gray ME and Joanne L. Sorensen and her husband, Daniel, of Russell, PA; grandchildren, Jennifer Whelan and husband Lt. Colonel Christopher Whelan, of Laurel, MD, Brynne Hinsdale and her husband Kyle, of Clymer, N.Y., and Aric L. Walton and wife Jessica of Yarmouth, ME; great grandchildren, Gerrit, Bryce, Aidan, Declan, and Morgan; a sisterinlaw, Roberta Cramer; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clifford Walton; her identical twin sister, Doris Varian Ketner; a brother, Frank Young, an infant brother William Young, a grandson Zachary Sorensen.

Friends will be received at the First Church of the Nazarene, 907 Penna. Ave. East, Warren, PA, 16365 on Tuesday, February 6, from10 am until 11 am, at which time a funeral service will be held there, with Rev. Jay Maier, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Russell.
