Shirley Granger
Shirley I Granger, 89, of Robertson Dr., Youngsville, passedaway unexpectedly on Monday December 5, 2016 at Warren General Hospital.
Born on September 5, 1927 in Titusville, a daughter tothe late Fred and Sarah (Benedict) McChesney. She grew up on a farm in Torpedoand graduated from Tidioute in 1947. Upon graduation, she along with herparents, cut and skidded paper wood to pay for her first summer at Edinboro,where she was awarded an emergency teaching certificate. She would attendcollege in the summer and teach in the fall/spring. She continued to dothis until she remained married to Donald C. Granger June 16, 1956 and retiredto Pittsburgh to raise her family. Upon his death in 1978 she moved back to theTidioute/Torpedo area and reentered the work force as an aide for Warren CountySpecial Education and retired in 1989. She enjoyed going to Bible study,volunteering at the Rouse, watching wrestling was an avid outdoor personpreferring to be outside “pulling weeds”. Shirley was member of Garland Presbyterian church, Youngsville AmericanLegion Post 658 Auxiliary and Friends of the Rouse.
Shirley is survived by her two children, Jon (Janet) Granger of Warren and Shirlee (Fred) Peters of Youngsville, a brother, Arthur McChesneyof Youngsville, her grandchildren, Michael Peters and great grandchildren Stephanie, Michael and SkylarPeters, Marianne Mattera and great grandchildren Justin, Rachael and MarissaMattera, Sherri (Dave)Huntley and greatgrandchildren Sarah (Michael) Woodley and Tyler Williams, Kelly Rowland and great grandson Gavin Rowland andgrandson, Christopher Granger. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews,great and greatgreat nieces and nephews, her close friends and neighbors andcard playing pals.
In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was precededin death by brothers Warren McChesney and Blaine McChesney and sisters, BarbaraCox and Alice “Eula” Soudan.
Friends are invited to call on Thursday from 47 pm at theNelson Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 314 North Main St. inYoungsville. A funeral service will beheld there on Friday at 11 am with the Rev. Tim Olsen, pastor of the GarlandPresbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the GarlandPresbyterian Cemetery.
