In preparation for the nation’s 250th birthday, the Quilter’s Night Out guild is hosting a quilt show that includes a quilt featuring Uncle Sam.
The guild’s show, titled “Stars and Stripes: Celebrating Our Country’s 250th,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 3, on the first floor of the TAWC Building, 42 Clark St., Warren. There is a $5 admission fee for adults with students and children admitted free. More than 20 door prizes donated by vendors and local businesses as well as three quilts are available to win. Those purchasing an admission ticket get one door prize ticket free. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each or six tickets for $5.
Also at the show will be 10 vendors selling a variety of products and providing door prizes. Quilter’s Cupboard Quilt Shop is coming from Seneca, Pa., with quilting supplies for sale. Guild members Sue Papalia and Cheryl Frye are selling quilts, quilted pillows, and towels. Other local vendors are selling soap, candles, handmade cards, beach glass art, shadow boxes, linens and leather goods.
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church provides a meeting space for the guild as well as a place for storage while the Transit Authority of Warren County is allowing the use of the TAWC building for the show.
One special display at the show will honor the memory of Phyllis O’Neill, a former guild member who quilted for many years with her daughters, Kathy and Karen.
The goals of the guild include displaying quilts in order to raise money for charity projects and to attract new people to the art of quilting and membership into the guild. A charitable projects display will showcase the charitable causes in the community. Some of the organizations that have received quilts and donations include A Safe Place, House of Hope, Red Cross, Kids in Need, hurricane victims, fire victims, police cars, Women’s Care Center, Dialysis Center, Child Advocacy Center, Faith Inn, Habitat for Humanity, Caring for Life, Humane Society, Warren General Hospital Nursery, Historical Society, Camp Halo, and Quilts of Valor.
Several more special displays include patriotic quilts, an antique sewing machine, historical facts, selfie display, a nine-patch (pizza box) challenge, pocket prayer quilt sales and a charity quilt.
The quilt show is co-chaired by members Yvonne Doversike and Marianne Malloy. The Quilter’s Night Out officers are Yvonne Doverspike and Melanie Roberts, co-presidents; Priscilla Powley, vice president; Anne Rock, secretary; and Barb Crawford, treasurer.
The guild meets on the first Wednesday of the month from September through June at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 306 Conewango Ave., Warren. Meetings include a brief business meeting, a program presented by a guild member or a special speaker, and ‘show and share,’ where members show off their latest quilts.
