Weather warning continues as hazardous travel expected

Several state roads near Warren County have been closed to through traffic due to flooding and high winds, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Multiple roads have been closed across Crawford, Erie and Forest counties.

PennDOT officials said the closures will remain in effect until floodwaters recede and crews can assess and complete any necessary repairs.

PennDOT warned drivers to use caution during severe weather, reminding motorists to watch for water on roadways, obey traffic control devices, and never drive through flooded or standing water.

A Lake Effect Snow Warning remains in place for Warren County. According to the National Weather Service, the warning is in effect through 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Forecasters expect heavy lake effect snow, with accumulations between three and six inches, with higher totals possible in northern parts of the county. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 miles per hour, increasing the risk of difficult travel and downed tree branches.

“We encourage folks to stay home and stay off the roads,” said Saxon Daugherty, PennDOT safety press officer. “That frees up the roads for our crews to get out and make them as safe and passable as possible.”

However, PennDOT understands that travel is sometimes necessary, and drivers should use caution at this time, such as allowing for extra travel time, reducing speed and increasing follow distance.

Officials said hazardous conditions could impact the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Residents are encouraged to keep emergency supplies, including a flashlight, warm clothes, food, and water, in their vehicles.
