Little interest in budget public hearing
There’s not much public opinion about the 2025 budget proposal for the city of Warren.
The City Council held its public hearing on the budget Monday with only one member of the public attending.
“The 2025 proposed Municipal budget public hearing is being held to receive public comment regarding the proposed 2025 municipal budget,” said Mayor David Wortman. “It should be noted that this session is not for the exchange of questions and answers between the council staff and the public. The City Council will consider adoption of the 2025 municipal budget at its regular scheduled meeting to be held Monday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. We are here to listen to any public input concerning the budgets; the next meeting can entail conversation back and forth.”
Wortman then asked if anyone in attendance wanted to address the council regarding the proposed budget.
The sole attendee, Pat Evans, a local community member, said council member Danielle Flasher had personally invited her to the meeting, along with those attending a recent Leadership Warren event.
Leadership Warren is a program designed to educate participants about various aspects of local governance and civic engagement. During their meeting with the city hall, Leadership Warren participants had the chance to learn about the roles and functions of the city council.
“I am here because I was invited,” Evans said. “I think it’s worth noting that maybe everyone for all sorts of meetings should invite people to attend because that made the difference. If she (Ms.Flasher) had just said there’s this meeting, I don’t think I would have thought about it, but she specifically invited people to attend, so thank you.”
