Road work continues on Longhouse Scenic Drive

Work to rehabilitate Longhouse Scenic Drive — and replace over 100 culverts — is now underway in earnest.

Currently, work is focused on the area of the road between Kiasutha Recreation Area and Route 321, according to ANF Bradford District Ranger Rich Hatfield.

“There has been a flagger on the road and delays have generally been 15 minutes or less,” he said.

The next phase will see work between Kiasutha and Mudlick Run/Cornplanter.

“They have completed the outlet protection for this work plan and will be continuing with culvert replacement for the next two to three weeks,” Hatfield said. “This will all be under traffic control.”

Several small culverts between Route 59 and Jakes Rocks Road have been completed and planning is underway on a more detailed schedule.

“The contractor and Army Corps of Engineers are reviewing documents for the replacement of larger culverts,” Hatfield said. “(O)nce that review is finished, we should have a more complete construction schedule that will include road closures, etc.”

He said that a 14-day closure between Jakes Rocks Rd. and Kiasutha is anticipated later this summer or early fall.

“And there will be longer closures to thru traffic next year when the larger culverts are replaced around Elijah and Dewdrop,” Hatfield added.

Starting at $3.50/week.
