Three recognized as ‘Women Who Make a Difference’

Photo provided to the Times Observer The Zonta Club of Warren has recognized three women - from let, Ruth Ann DeVore, Amber Sharp and Penny Lester - as “Women Who Make a Difference.”

Three Warren County women have been recognized as “Women Who Make a Difference” for their leadership in the community.

The awards were made by the Zonta Club of Warren.

“Each year the Zonta Club of Warren honors selected women who make a difference in the community through volunteer work,” Marina Smith, communications chair for the Warren Zonta Club, said.

Those recognized are Ruth Ann DeVore, Amber Sharp and Penny Lester.

“Each woman receives a yellow rose – a symbol of Zonta for friendship and mutual support, a certificate recognizing their accomplishments, and a contribution to their chosen charity in their honor,” Smith said.

DeVore co-chairs the Lottsville Heritage Festival and is also involved in the leadership of the Hill & Dale Garden Club, which provides community garden activities throughout the county. She’s also involved in church outreach work and the county fair.

Sharp has been a childcare teacher at the Jefferson DeFrees Family Center since 2021.

“Miss Amber’s calm demeanor and seemingly unlimited amount of patience makes her a one-of-a-kind treasure for a classroom full of energetic and often unreasonable three-year-olds,” Smith said. “She has the love and respect of not only her children, but her peers as well.”

Lester, a member at First Lutheran Church, supports English language programs for new citizens while helping them adjust to live in this area.

She’s also involved with fundraising for individuals in need of food, housing and healthcare.

“She is an active member of several community organizations that better our community,” Smith said.
