Sunshine Week program set for Thursday
Each year the League of Women Voters holds a public program to highlight Sunshine Week, stressing the importance of open government.
This year, Michael Baxter, president/CEO of Spotlight PA will speak at an event set for next Thursday, March 14, at the Slater Room of the Warren Public Library. The talk will begin at 6:30 p.m.
“Spotlight PA news is a free, non-profit, non-partisan online news resource providing daily and weekly updates on happenings in the state Capitol and other areas of the state,” Phyllis Wright, communications VP with the Warren County League of Women Voters explained. “Mr. Baxter will address what he describes as the big effort that his news organization puts forth to uphold government transparency and get truth to the public,” Wright explained. “Those efforts complement the goals of Sunshine Week.”
According to the Pennsylvania News Media Association, Sunshine Week – March 10-16 – affords the opportunity “to highlight the importance of transparency in our government, and we underscore the vital work our journalists do to fight for access to records that shed light on government activity.”
