Clarendon Street project approved

The Warren County Commissioners have signed off on a $366,000 rehabilitation of Center Street in Clarendon.

Funded with federal Community Development Block Grant dollars, the project will restore the section of Center Street between Brown Avenue and Railroad Street.

Grants Administrator Danielle Flasher aisd that the project is part of a multi-year effort that included stormwater work last year.

“This is the final phase of that street,” Flasher said, and will include both a reconstruction of the surface as well as curbing and sidewalks.

“When we’re done with it, it’s going to be beautiful,” she said.

Commissioner Dan Glotz noted the “monumental challenge” that came with “dealing with the stormwater piece of this.”

Flasher said that Clarendon Borough Council is grateful to receive the funding and that residents in the area are happy to see the improvements.

The work, Flasher said, is expected to be completed by early August.

BODY CAMERA AGREEMENT APPROVED

The commissioners also approved an agreement that would secure body cameras for both Warren County Sheriff’s Deputies and correctional staff at the county jail.

It’s a five year agreement and the cost is spread out over the life of the contract.

“I believe that having those cameras… cuts down on our liability,” Commissioner Ken Klakamp said. “When we have situations, we can go back and look at the event that occurred.

Commissioner Tricia Durbin said that the funds to cover the purchase will come from a grant and a jail-related account, not the county’s general fund.
