Warren Central School District receives clean audit

At its meeting Monday, the Warren County School District heard a report on its annual audit.

Stephen Falk of Felix & Gloekler told board members the accounting firm had given a “Clean opinion” on district finances for the previous budget year.

According to him, there were “no material weaknesses or sufficient findings” in the audit.

A separate audit of usage of Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funds also came up with no findings.

He described the audit as “a tribute… to the business office.”

The board accepted the audit report as submitted later in the meeting.

The board also heard an update on funding from the state.

“We actually have a budget from the state,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said.

The state had not finalized its budget process until last month. A significant amount of public school funding comes from state appropriations.

Stewart said there is a “list of things” the board needs to do now that a budget has passed.

She also reported the state is extending a program put in place during the pandemic to allow additional flexibility in utilization of substitute teachers.

Stewart also announced the state will provide up to $10,000 in grant funding for student teachers and $2,500 for their mentors.

The state is also implementing funding for capital projects through a school environmental repair program and facility improvement project funds. Stewart noted the facility improvement funds are limited and the district may not be on the list of those receiving funding.

School safety and mental health grants are also being made available. Requests for those funds are due in March.

The board also authorized signatories for the capital reserve, holding, trust checking, athletic, payroll, petty cash, general fund and food service accounts.

Starting at $4.00/week.
