WCSD board considers paving project at BWMS next summer

The board of the Warren County School District is slated to consider a project for paving at Beaty-Warren Middle School at its next meeting.

During the board’s Committee of the Whole meeting Monday night, an agreement with HRLC Architects for design work and project administration was presented. The agreement authorizes more than $39,000 to be paid to the firm for services.

The total project allocation is $535,599.64.

“The decision to begin the project for repairing the parking lot at Beaty was made because the top course of asphalt is beginning to break down in many areas,” WCSD Office of Building and Grounds Operations Manager Dave Undercoffer said.

“Only some areas of the parking lot were paved during the 2014 renovation and the rest of the parking lot is much older.”

If approved, the design process would run from next month through late February, with work going out to bid for a deadline of March 19. Work would begin in June and be slated to conclude by late August.

“We are only entering the design phase currently but hope to have a multi-faceted approach,” Undercoffer said. “The newer areas may only receive crack and spot repairs as necessary, while others will require milling and replacing the top course. The main entrance and bus lanes are in the worst shape and patching has become excessive. Performing the repairs now will help save the district from having to do more extensive repairs if we continue to hold off and allow the base materials to be affected.”

At the January regular board meeting, the board will also consider:

Agreements for both hands-on and hands-off crisis intervention training,

Agreements for Individuals with Disabilities Education Act funding with the Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit 5,

A renewal for the Pearson Digital Assessment Library,

An agreement for training through the I Can Talk clinic on communicating with non-verbal students,

Renewals of articulation agreements with Triangle Tech and Rosedale Technical College for the Warren County Career Center,

An agreement with Heartland School Solutions which would allow credit card purchase of tickets to school events,

An agreement with Bump Armor Tech Protection for cases for electronic items,

An agreement with Ubiquiti Point to Point for wireless cameras at the Warren County Career Center and Warren Area Elementary Center,

An agreement with Connection Public Sector Solutions for handheld network analysis equipment,

And an agreement with Insight Technology for voice over internet protocol phones and equipment.
