School board hears update on Kids In Need Fund

The Warren County School District board was recently provided with an update on the status of the Kids In Need Community Fund.

The fund, which was started for the 2015-16 school year, is a collaborative effort between the school district and the community and is “designed to provide temporary support and resources with the long-term goal of identifying and addressing barriers responsible for hardships influencing families in our community.”

This year, the fund has identified 117 children within the district in need of aid, 21 less than last school year. Of those students, 87 are under age 14; 30 are age 15 or older; and 39 are identified as homeless.

The fund has provided more than $24,000 worth of aid this school year.

The fund’s Thanksgiving program, supported by the Sokolski Family Fund, provided 92 families with meals.

The fund’s angel tree, sponsored by the Libonati Fund and employees of the Warren County School District, sponsored 74 individuals this year; 73% of recipients were 14 or younger and 27% were age 15 or older.

Because of identification by the program, 14 students were provided gifts through the Region 5 Homeless and Foster Care Education Program.

In total, the fund has served 1,083 students and their families since its inception– 741 under age 14 and 342 age 15 or older — with more than $130,000 worth of aid.

Starting at $4.00/week.
