Broadband plans, reassessment moving forward in Warren County

Seven internet service providers have applied for state Broadband Infrastructure Program grants.

Tricia Durbin, county commissioner, said the seven providers were vetted by a consultant hired by the county, CTC Technology & Energy. Three were ultimately recommended as the best potential option to move forward in conjunction with the county – Verizon, Charter Communications and WestPAnet. The recommendations were based on provider contribution amounts to the project and requested county match amounts. Total requested grant funds totalled $21.8 million, and the maximum match from county American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 funds, if awarded, totalled $701,000.

If funded, projects could potentially provide service to 5,443 households, the majority in Warren County.

An update was also given on the county property reassessment process.

It was reported the process is on track as far as evaluations. It was reported at the Aug. 23 county commissioners meeting that approximately 20-percent of the county had been completed at that point.

Vision Government Solutions, the contractor hired to complete the reassessment in the spring, had hired local employees to work in the field. They started in the City of Warren before moving into rural municipalities as they gained experience.

It is expected to take approximately one more year before all parcels in Warren County are visited.

Residents can expect notification before assessors visit their property.

A brochure has been released explaining what reassessment is and how it impacts residents.

The first expected tax changes wouldn’t take effect until at least January of 2025.

Starting at $4.00/week.
