County requests two owners come before blighted property panel
Another municipality is interested in joining Warren County’s blighted property management program.
During a recent meeting, the Warren County Blighted Property Review Committee was informed Freehold Township had sent a letter asking what needed to be done to allow it to work with the county to address blight.
In order to do so, the township needs to approve an intergovernmental agreement and a blighted property ordinance.
As for regular business, the committee approved requesting two property owners attend its September meeting.
A motion was passed to request Gregory Burkett, owner of the property at 3640 Jackson Run Road, Conewango Township, attend the meeting.
According to the committee, the property has been “on the townships radar” for about three years due to vacancy and disrepair.
Supervisors in the township reportedly have tried to handle the situation through local action, including by utilizing the township nuisance ordinance, with no success. The property was purchased at judicial sale in 2019. Since then, the township reports little to no work has been done to it.
A property at 2016 Jackson Ave. in Glade Township was also on the agenda. BSRE Holdings of Lancaster purchased the parcel at tax sale in 2020.
The company was sent a nuisance violation letter by the township for issues of disrepair and feral cats last year. BSRE Holdings did not respond. When court action was taken, no representative for the company appeared in court and a fine was issued.
The township reports the site has been vacant for over a year.
The blighted property committee approved requesting a representative of BSRE Holdings attend its September meeting.
