Tax rebate checks are in the mail
Checks providing rebates on some property tax and rent payments in 2022 could already be in the mail.
Pennsylvania Secretary of Revenue Pat Browne announced that Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program rebates would be sent out starting Monday.
The checks go out to more than 280,000 eligible older homeowners, renters, and people with disabilities who submitted applications. The maximum standard rebate is $650 and the statewide rebate amount is nearly $132 million.
“As specified by law, rebates cannot be issued prior to July 1. The initial rebate distribution is starting this year on July 3 – the first business day of the month,” according to a release from the Department of Revenue.
“Applicants who submitted their bank account information on their application forms will receive their rebates through direct deposit. Applicants who requested a paper check to be mailed to them should expect to receive their payment in the mail.”
Those who have not yet applied may still do so by visiting www.revenue.pa.gov/ptrr. Eligible applicants must meet at least one of the following – age 65 or older, widow or widower age 50 or older, or at least 18 with disabilities. Current income eligibility standards are set at $35,000 for homeowners and $15,000 for renters.
“After the initial distribution of rebates in early July, rebates will be distributed as claims are received and processed,” according to the release.
