Commissioner get $891k bid for courthouse rehab
One bid has been received for an extensive rehabilitation effort at the Warren County Courthouse.
The scope of the project includes repairs — including painting — of the courthouse below the roof line, repairs in the main courtroom, masonry repairs and improvements to prevent water damage on the exterior on some of the new portions of the building.
The commissioners opened the only bid received during Monday’s work session. It was from the Corry, Pa. firm Dynasty Construction, totaling over $891,000.
A proposal presented to the commissioners back in February estimated the cost at $750,000.
“There is a lot of stuff in this,” Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said Monday. “(We) will have to go through it with a fine-toothed comb.”
It was not clear when the commissioners might look to move ahead.
The commissioners also discussed a proposal to design a new home for the county’s 911 center.
Commissioner Ben Kafferlin said the current facility — the Rouse Annex building outside Youngsville — is “subpar” with HVAC and “building envelope issues.”
He said it’s also not a conducive space to house a modern 911 system.
He presented a proposal from Mission Critical Partners to “engineer a new space for them.
“(We are) looking at the feasibility of moving it to a couple locations we would identify with them,” Kafferlin said.
He added he is “reasonably sure this is the best company in the state to handle this particular project.”
Cost for the proposal is $35,644.
Commissioner Tricia Durbin asked if this is putting the cart before the horse in terms of identifying a new location for the 911 center.
Kafferlin said it was in “tandem.”
“They would be able to evaluate and then engineer whatever facility we go with,” he said.
Citing a lack of agenda items, the commissioners also canceled Wednesday’s meeting.
