Winning lottery ticket seller cashing in… but not for millions
A customer came up to the counter at Brokenstraw Beverage on Route 6 in Youngsville, asked for a Match 6 ticket with Quick Picks, paid for it and their beer and walked out.
It wasn’t out of the ordinary.
But, the result was.
The ticket matched all six of the numbers in Tuesday’s drawing to win the jackpot prize of almost $1.9 million.
As of Thursday, Owner Chris Hodak didn’t know who purchased the winning ticket. The winning numbers are good for a year and there is no requirement that the winner return to the place they purchased the ticket.
No matter who won the jackpot, selling the winning ticket is good for Brokenstraw Beverage.
There is some positive mojo for the seller – some players will look to capitalize on any lingering good luck by buying tickets from a place that just had a big winner.
As of Thursday morning, there had been a bit of an uptick in lottery sales at Brokenstraw Beverage.
“I’ve seen a couple more people come in so far,” Hodak said. “It’s hard to tell with it just happening yesterday.”
He expects more visitors looking to cash in on good luck over the weekend.
The winning sale is also good news for Hodak and Brokenstraw Beverage in another way.
Retailers win bonuses for selling big winners.
Hodak said he will receive $10,000. That’s a welcome bonus, but it’s already ear-marked.
“It’s going to go back into my lottery account, as far as paying out instant tickets,” he said. “I’m not using it for anything special.”
