Services throughout Warren County for Memorial Day

Times Observer photo by Josh Cotton Bunky Froman, left, salutes during the raising of the flag that was part of last year’s Memorial Day commemoration at the Warren County Courthouse.

Memorial Day was just a few years after the end of the Civil War to decorate the graves of war dead and honor those sacrifices.

That tradition will continue in many towns and cemeteries throughout Warren County on Monday as Hometown Heroes banners go up and flags dot the landscape in cemeteries.

There will be observances in every corner of the county.

In Warren, a service will be held at the Warren County Courthouse at 10 a.m.

Richard Hanson, who is organizing that event, said that seating will be limited and people are asked to bring a chair.

He added that in the case of rain the service will be held in the upstairs meeting room at the American Legion Post 135 on Pennsylvania Ave.

The Sugar Grove AMVETS Post 50 will be holding a ceremony at 11 a.m. in the park in Sugar Grove.

Observances will be held in Grand Valley at the Sanford Cemetery at 1 p.m.
