A Sunday fire in a store at the Warren Mall appears to be a case of arson.
The fire broke out at about 3:20 p.m. Sunday.
“We were dispatched for a commercial fire at 4000 Market St. — Label Shopper,” North Warren Volunteer Fire Department Chief Shawn Jones said. “While en route, dispatch notified us that there was smoke and fire visible.”
The first units at the scene confirmed that report, he said.
Several people — store personnel and patrons — were inside at the time the fire broke out and were able to evacuate without injury, Jones said.

“We made entry through the front door with a 2.5-inch line and knocked down the fire quickly,” he said.
In addition to North Warren, Starbrick, Scandia, Russell, Glade, and Pleasant volunteer fire departments, and the City of Warren Fire Department responded to the fire. Two ladder trucks from Chautauqua County, N.Y., were automatically called to the incident, but were released shortly after arriving, Jones said.
Firefighters remained on scene looking for hotspots or more fire and removing smoke from the building. They were at the location for about one-and-a-half hours, Jones said.
No neighboring businesses were damaged, but Jones said Napoli Pizza shut down for the remainder of the day due to the smell of smoke.
A Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal was requested and investigated the scene on Monday.
According to Conewango Township Police Officer Charlie Andersen, the fire marshal’s preliminary ruling was that the cause of the fire was arson.
“It’s under investigation,” Andersen said. “The preliminary findings from the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal did find that it was an arson.”
That cause is not official, pending a full report, he said.
Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact Andersen at (814) 726-0725.
