Commissioners talk riverfront, human services, jail roof
The Warren County Commissioners have been presented with a proposal for the formation of a joint task force to help oversee planning for Warren’s riverfront redevelopment.
Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said the proposal has been sent to the Warren City Council to create the joint task force. He said the city is currently reviewing the proposal, and he acknowledged that it’s “very possible this won’t happen.”
“The idea here isn’t to trample on anything that’s going on right now,” Eggleston continued. “Both entities (the city and county) have allocated a great deal of resources. This is just an entity that would take an active approach to planning (and) coordinating over the remainder of the year.”
When the commissioners might move on the proposal is unclear.
HUMAN SERVICES PROJECT
A request for proposals for a human services consultant was to be released on Monday.
Eggleston said the objective there is to “get somebody that is going to do a strategic five-year plan for human services.”
The window for applicants will run into May with the project expected to take most of the summer.
“I think everybody is ready and looking forward to getting this moving forward.”
STATUS OF JAIL ROOF
Leaks in the roof at the county jail have pushed the item to the forefront for repairs and estimates presented Monday ranged from $350,000 to over $550,000.
Funding sources will be under review but Commissioner Tricia Durbin asked if there were other capital projects underway that could be halted to free up funding.
“I know we have a capital contingency,” she said. “Clearly, it’s a project that needs managed and taken care of.”
