Sheffield properties focus of RDA’s Tuesday meeting

Two properties in Sheffield Township drew the focus of the county’s Redevelopment Authority during a Tuesday meeting.

17 Hall St. and 146 Saybrook Road were two of several properties before the board.

County Planner Dan Glotz said that the owner of 17 Hall St. told him that he sold the property to a “cash now” entity with closing projected by the end of the year.

“It’s an odd-shaped piece right off that bend,” he said of the parcel, citing a water problem and missing windows.

Sheffield Township Supervisor Jeff Labesky said that “water literally runs through the house when it rains” and said the township has received complaints from neighbors about racoons in the structure and snakes in the summer.

County staff will seek to make contact with the owner to identify the firm involved in the sale.

The Saybrook Road property has been on the RDA’s agenda for several months.

Glotz said the “real concern here” is the roof on the front porch. “I would be afraid to stand under it.”

The property has been on-again-off-again occupied which compounds the RDA’s efforts.

Labesky told the RDA that a used tin roof was placed over the structure.

“Penelec had to come back,” he said, because “tin was touching the electric wire. The foundation was never fixed at all, at least to my understanding.”

He told the RDA that the tenant had been removed from the structure by the Area Agency on Aging.

The RDA agreed to send a letter to the owner to ask that he come to the next meeting with a plan for the property.

“We can try,” Authority member Chuck Barone said, noting that the owner ignored such an effort earlier in the process.

Starting at $3.50/week.
