Selling Pleasant Elementary not all that easy

Times Observer photos by Brian Ferry The Warren County School District is looking into the possibility of selling the former Pleasant Township School.

The Warren County School District may be making a sale soon.

The district is looking into options for disposing of the former Pleasant Township Elementary School. The district recently disposed of another of its properties — the old Sheffield Elementary School.

While there is interest in the Pleasant property, and in selling it, there are other considerations.

For years, the district has used the building for storage. Following an auction of items that occupy a lot of space and provide little value, the district has less need for the space.

Still, there are things the district keeps.

“There is a storage element,” Superintendent Amy Stewart said. “We’re trying to minimize the things that we’re storing.”

She presented the physical plant and facilities committee with some information — “What are we doing at Sugar Grove? What are we doing at the Anderson building? What are we doing at Pleasant?”

If the building sells, “Are we going to build a pole building?” she asked. “Are we going to utilize unused space somewhere else?”

“We’ve had a little shellshock over the proposed cost of pole buildings,” she told the committee.

Figuring out how to handle the loss of the building is up to Operations Manager David Undercoffer.

“We’re definitely gaining interest,” Undercoffer said. “I’m starting to dig into how to handle storage if we do get rid of Pleasant.”

Starting at $3.50/week.
