RDA hears positive report on blighted property

City officials are optimistic that a blighted property on Locust St. will be resolved in the coming weeks.

The city’s Redevelopment Authority discussed the status of 58 Locust St. during a Wednesday meeting.

Randy Rossey, the city’s director of codes and planning, said that property maintenance issues started back in 2016.

The city’s Blighted Property Review Committee declared the property blighted in Sept. 2021 but Rossey said the RDA tabled action in Jan. 2022 with the hope of purchasing the property county of the county’s delinquent tax property repository.

The current owner, however, purchased the property at judicial sale.

“It was up to him to alleviate the blight process,” Rossey said. “He is in the process of abating all of the issues.

That includes a new roof, siding, windows and interior work and the RDA was informed Wednesday that all utilities are on and the rehabilitation should be completed in two to three weeks.

“It’s been a beehive of activity which is good to see,” Rossey said.

The RDA canceled its December meeting and will next meet on Jan. 11.

“Hopefully, the RDA will be able to lift that declaration of blight,” Rossey added.

Starting at $3.50/week.
