A group of people named “Gary” are giving a jolt to the Warren Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign.

Captain Dorothy Budd said the organization is struggling to get volunteers for the campaign this season.

And a group that has been bell ringing for a few years are back at it and trying to draw others in.

It’s the Garys.

Gary Lester is the ringleader and this marks year three. It’s a group of people named — you guessed it — Gary.

“The group will be ringing all day Friday, Dec. 16, at Shurfine Market,” Lester said. “The Garys are challenging Toms, Dicks, and Marys, and any other like-named individual to put together a volunteer ringing team.”

“The Salvation Army could use more Garys, Sarahs or Terrys,” Captain Shane Budd said. “The Salvation Army Red Kettle Bells are Ringing, and volunteers are in short supply. Volunteers are vital to raising funds for our community.”

Budd stressed that the campaign doesn’t just raise funds for Christmas.

“Kettle campaign helps to provide services all year long, not just during the Christmas season,” Captain Shane Budd said. “The campaign goal for this year is 75,000 and it ends on December 24.

Anyone looking to volunteer is asked to call (814) 723-8950.

Starting at $3.50/week.
