Third graders get into Halloween spirit

Skeletons were on the move at Warren Area Elementary Center this Halloween season.
Third graders learned about the human skeleton from Teacher Jessica Decker in an introductory health unit.
Following that activity, the students applied their knowledge in the gym.
“Physical Education Teacher Kara Hess provided an opportunity for students to continue to use and apply this knowledge during a Halloween-themed Skeleton Relay Race activity,” Assistant Principal Kylie Harris said. “Students reviewed the component parts of the skeleton by anatomical name, then broke apart the skeletons, spreading the bones around the gymnasium area to make a ‘graveyard.’ Students then worked in teams, racing against one another to rebuild their skeleton one last time and correctly label each part.”
Reassembling the skeletons was not the end of the cross-curricular experience.
“Students will continue to build upon this foundational knowledge in their upcoming Core Knowledge Language Arts Unit entitled The Human Body,” Harris said.
