Repair station proposal approved

The Warren County Commissioners have allocated $2,500 for a regional project that could bring bike repair stations to Tidioute, Youngsville and Warren.

It’s part of Route 6 Alliance project and the commissioners agreed to fund the county’s match with Act 13 funds, monies that come into the county from the state’s Marcellus Shale impact fee.

County Planner Dan Glotz, who is also the incoming president of the Route 6 Alliance, said the entity is submitting a grant to the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources “to secure funding for bike repair stations and bike repairs in four of the counties along the Alliance route.”

That route follows US 6 from the New York border to the Ohio border and this specific proposal includes stations in Warren, McKean, Potter and Tioga county.

Tidioute, Youngsville and Warren were selected, he said, because they currently have bike/hike trails.

While not along US 6, Glotz said Tidioute is included because the Alliance’s boundaries included the counties where the route passes, rather than a distance from US 6.

He said there is a chance additional communities could see bike stations if the funding permits.

The commissioners on Wednesday also agreed to revive the county’s solid waste authority, which had sunsetted 50 years after its initial creation in the early 1970s.

Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said it would only be revived through the end of the year as there are “various closure actions” for the Grunderville Landfill that need to be taken, including transferring the closure fund and other bank accounts.

Starting at $3.50/week.
