NY man to county jail for threats, harassment

A New York State man will spend months in the county jail for terrorizing a now-ex-girlfriend.

Steven M. Mullin, 43, Pulaski, NY, was sentenced Friday by Judge Gregory Hammond on four separate criminal dockets.

His attorney, Chief Public Defender Kord Kinney, said the incidents were all against his ex-girlfriend within a couple weeks.

He said his client was “going through a difficult time” which included time in the county jail as well as on a mental health commitment.

Kinney stressed there has been no contact between the two since the incidents.

“(I) apologize sincerely for what I did, sir,” Mullin said to Hammond.

Hammond then went through the conduct that Mullin pleaded guilty to: threatening to kill the victim, telling her he hoped no one found the body which, he noted, initially brought Mullin a kidnapping charge; calling her over 250 times after state police told him not to; contacting her an additional 42 times using an app to hide the number, impersonating her brother to tell her that Mullin had died in a car crash.

He said that Mullin wasn’t the only one “going through a rough patch” as the victim must have been in a “living hell” for a time.

He then sentenced Mulling to five months up to two years less one day incarceration, submission of a DNA sample, $250 in fines and fees, 30 hours of community service, a no contact/trespass order and to undergo mental health and drug and alcohol evaluations and complying with recommendations on a count of terroristic threats; 90 days probation on a count of harassment; one year probation and 20 hours of community service on a count of harassment and one year probation and 20 hours of community service on an additional count of harassment.

Starting at $3.50/week.
