Commissioners receive two proposals for property reassessment

County officials have received two proposals from firms seeking to conduct the county’s property tax reassessment.

The county has one of the oldest assessments in the state and the commissioners had implemented a timeline that would see the selection of a firm to complete the work by the end of the year.

It’s likely to be a year or two before taxpayers see any changes to their bills should the commissioners move ahead.

There are just two firms in the state that can complete the work – Vision Government Services and Tyler Technologies. Both submitted a proposal for the county in advance of Monday’s deadline.

Commissioner Tricia Durbin said the proposal from Vision totaled $1,744,000 while Tyler Technologies proposed $1,722,763 for a project cost.

Brian Bull, the county’s chief assessor, said those costs were “pretty close” to expectations.

Durbin said she is “happy to see something that’s super comparable. The devil is in the details.”

Commissioner Ben Kafferlin called the proposals “very competitive.”

Commissioner Jeff Eggleston raised a need to look at software requirements for potential system changes and service fees.

Solicitor Nathaniel Schmidt recommended meetings with both firms.

“(It’s) worth taking time to absorb and review,” Durbin said. “Let’s do a deeper dive into the proposals.”
