County parties respond to abortion ruling
In the wake of Friday’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, both the Warren County Republican and Democratic parties issued statements.
“The Supreme Court decision (Friday) has rightfully returned the issue of abortion to the states to decide,” Warren County Republican Party Chair Kathy Kemp-Jensen said. “It does not outlaw abortion outright but provides the states the opportunity to decide based on the will of their constituents.”
“Unfortunately, the Supreme Court (Friday) reversed almost 50 years of legal precedent in regard to one of the most intensely personal choices a woman can make about her body,” according to the Warren County Democratic Party release. “The lives of innumerable Americans will be jeopardized as a result of this decision.”
Both parties are calling for voters to rally.
“It is more important than ever to register to vote and to show up at the polls on November 8, 2022, to make sure your voice is heard,” according to the Democratic release.
“The Republican Party, through Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell, have chosen to politicize the court by engineering the appointment of extremist judges,” Commissioner Jeff Eggleston said. “This is the end result. The Democratic Party must now rally and fight for women’s freedoms and make a woman’s right to choose law.”
Abortion is not the only issue that voters will be looking at in the fall.
“This is a victory for the unborn and states’ rights, but our state and country are currently facing more pressing struggles that are the Republican focus,” Kemp-Jensen said. “Today we are facing record-high inflation, the high price of gas and groceries, the shortage of baby formula as well as rising crime and drug offenses, and an open border. These are the issues that Pennsylvanians are concerned about and our Republican candidates will be addressing in this year’s campaigns.”
