Knife attack lands man in Warren county jail

A New York man is in Warren County jail after allegedly trying to knife another man.

Jason A. Hogle, 37, of Olean, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, terroristic threats, resisting arrest, and criminal mischief.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Hogle said to the alleged victim, who was driving a female victim home from work, that he was waiting with a “big boy blade” and was “going to kill him.”

The alleged victims told police Hogle was waiting for them when they arrived at a Terrace Street residence at about 11 p.m. Monday, according to the affidavit.

“The defendant approached the vehicle, passenger side first, and produced a knife,” police said. “The passenger side window was down and the defendant reached inside the vehicle and attempted to stab (the victim) with the knife,.”

According to the affidavit, Hogle was reaching over the woman and she told police he almost hit her multiple times.

“The defendant then moved to the driver side of the vehicle where the window was also down and attempted to stab (the victim) from that position,” according to police.

Police said the victim told them the knife was so close he could hear it moving through the air near his face.

Hogle “took off” when the victim yelled that he was calling police, according to the affidavit.

Police located Hogle at Conewango Avenue and Pioneer Street.

Police described the weapon, which was found later, as a “12-inch wooden and brass handled knife.”

Neither victim was injured, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, “once the defendant was advised of the criminal charges, he became irate with officers and became combative.”

Hogle allegedly broke an officer’s body camera as he continued to resist.

At Warren County jail, he was placed in a “restraining chair” by multiple officers, according to the affidavit.

Police were called back to the jail later because Hogle continued to be combative, according to the affidavit.

Hogle was arraigned Tuesday morning before Magisterial District Judge Todd Woodin and taken to jail after failing to post $100,000 bail.

A preliminary hearing is set for 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 13.

Starting at $3.50/week.
