Alleged meth dealer behind bars

Times Observer photo by Brian Ferry Warren County Drug Task Force agents execute a search warrant at 6 Brenda Lane, Russell, Thursday evening, looking for signs that methamphetamine was being sold out of the house.

An alleged methamphetamine dealer is off the street.

Michael W. Brant, 45, of Russell, is in Warren County jail Friday after failing to post $100,000 bail.

Agents of the Warren County Drug Task Force made entry to the house at 6 Brenda Lane, Russell, shortly after 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

After making entry, agents took Brant into custody and conducted a search of the premises, according to Warren County Chief Detective Tom Kibbey.

They were looking for signs of methamphetamine sales.

The search included multiple officers and both Warren County K-9 units.

The search was part of a continuing investigation, according to Kibbey. “We received reports of sales of methamphetamine from the residence.”

Through physical surveillance, agents “observed a lot of traffic in and out,” he said. “A recent traffic stop revealed additional sales from this residence.”

“The subject is known and currently on probation for multiple counts of possession with intent to distribute,” Kibbey said Thursday night.

According to court documents, Brant posted $25,000 bail in November on a docket that includes 18 felony counts associated with dealing drugs.

The search results backed up the other parts of the investigation, Kibbey said Friday.

“We recovered paraphernalia indicative of the sales and distribution of methamphetamine.”

According to the affidavit of probable cause, agents found an open safe in the garage at 6 Brenda Lane.

In the safe were “multiple items of paraphernalia, including two digital scales with a white, crystallized substance, several cut baggies containing a similar residue, and glass smoking pipes.”

Additional charges in Magisterial District Court on Friday show Brant faces one felony count of possession with intent to deliver, one felony count of criminal use of a communications facility, and three misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Brant was arraigned Friday morning before Magisterial District Judge Raymond Zydonik. A preliminary hearing is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 13.
