Fish & Boat releases trout stocking schedules

It feels anything but spring-like outside but a small reminder that spring is coming was released this week — trout stocking schedules.
“The release of our trout stocking schedule is always a welcome reminder that spring is just around the corner,”Brian Wisner, Director of the PFBC Bureau of Hatcheries, said.
Stocking is set to begin the week of Feb. 21 in light of the earlier statewide trout season opener that is set for April 2.
Fish & Boat says a total of 3.2 million adult trout will be placed in 696 streams and 128 lakes that are open to public angling.
That total is consistent with past years and includes 2.2 million rainbow trout, 686,000 brown trout and 293,000 brook trout. Average length is 11 inches with an average weight of .58 pounds.
About 70,000 brood fish, older larger trout, will be stocked in the 14- to 20-inch range as well as 13,000 golden rainbow trout.
Large fish will also be stocked in Keystone Select Stocked Trout Waters managed under delayed harvest artificial lure regulations. The closest two to Warren County are Kinzua Creek and Oil Creek.
Volunteers are also welcome to come assist with stocking efforts.
“This schedule is our roadmap for stocking millions of trout into hundreds of waterways across the state before and during the trout season, which is no small task,” Wisner said. “Anglers can review the schedule to learn which local waters will be ready for some great fishing in just a few weeks.”
