Rt. 62 repairs to begin next week

Repair work will commence next week on a section of Rt. 62 south of Irvine in Pleasant Township.

According to PennDOT, the project will include the construction of a 440-foot “gabion basket retaining wall” along the northbound lane near the intersection with River Valley Rd.

“Work will also include minor shoulder reconstruction, and drainage and pavement marking updates,” PennDOT explained.

PennDOT said work will start Sept. 27 and – if the weather complies – is expected to be completed in early November.

They say the contract was awarded to Horizon Construction Group, Inc. of Seneca, Pa. at a cost of $311,990 to be paid entirely with state funds.

“Traffic will be controlled by flaggers, and motorists should be alert for changing traffic patterns,” according to PennDOT.

This is separate from a temporary traffic signal currently in place further down Rt. 62 in Limestone Township.

PennDOT Press Officer Jill Harry said that emergency repair will also take place later this fall with work expected to start on Oct. 4.

Harry said that work is in “response to an emergency slide that occurred on July 17” amidst heavy rains.
